Is public urination the key to getting Canadian youth out to vote?
MTV.ca thought so when they decided to run their “There are other ways to mark your territory.” ads.
This is just one more in a long line of youth voting campaigns first launched by their American parent with the Rock the Vote commercials that featured similar attention grabbing spots, such as Madonna’s 1990 Ad.
Unfortunately, polling expects youth voting in the 2008 Canadian election is to drop to 50% from 57% in 2006.
Will this new campaign make the difference, or have they crossed the line between public service and promotion. I guess we’ll have to wait for the results in the morning.
Until then I’ll be watching MTV Canada. Because after hearing all the major news outlets talk about these controversial ads…I want to see what all the fuss is about.
